The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Regional Integration, Dr. Rui Figueiredo Soares, today, March 25, appointed Mr. Estêvão Tavares Vaz as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Cabo Verde to the Italian Republic. This appointment was made by Presidential Decree on March 12.

Ambassador Estêvão Vaz's appointment coincides with the conclusion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Regional Integration's systematic redefinition exercise of Cabo Verde's Diplomatic and Consular Network to ensure universal coverage, including all countries and international organizations.

According to the Cape Verdean Chief Diplomat, our Mission in Rome, now led by Ambassador Estevão Vaz, will have non-resident accreditation in Greece, Turkey, and Serbia, and will also serve as a liaison mission for neighboring countries such as Albania, Armenia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro, and San Marino.

Additionally, the Mission will monitor relations with international organizations based in Rome, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the World Food Programme (WFP). The Mission in Italy will be supported by a network of Honorary Consuls in Italian cities such as Bari, Bologna, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Turin, Verona, and finally in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.

The Minister believes that the newly appointed Ambassador possesses the qualifications necessary for the new responsibilities entrusted to him by the Government.

In his remarks, the newly appointed Ambassador pledged to devote his full capacity, commitment, and strength to fulfill the duties entrusted to him with "faithfulness and loyalty."

Ambassador Estêvão Vaz has professional experience in various internal and external services of foreign policy, including roles as Director-General of Consular Services, Director-General of Communities, Chargé d'Affaires in Berlin, and, since 2018 to the present date, Consul General of Cabo Verde in Nice, France.
