The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Regional Integration of Cabo Verde has a history marked by remarkable growth and evolution over the years. When it was established in the early decades after the country's independence, the ministry consisted of a small team, led by the first Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abílio Duarte. At that time, the team consisted of few staff members, including a secretary, some clerks, and support staff, responsible for handling Cabo Verde's early diplomatic and consular relations.

Over time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expanded its operations and responsibilities to meet the growing demands and challenges faced by the country on the international stage. Under different denominations such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Communities, and currently the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Regional Integration, the ministry adapted to address a wide range of issues, from bilateral and multilateral relations to development cooperation and regional integration.

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Regional Integration of Cabo Verde is a robust and multifaceted institution, with a highly qualified and dedicated team. The ministry's workforce includes members of the Diplomatic Service, Civil Service employees, and local staff, working in over 270 diplomatic missions worldwide.

Over the years, the ministry's role has also evolved in response to emerging challenges and changes in global circumstances. In addition to its traditional responsibilities of diplomatic and consular representation, MNECIR is now involved in a wide range of initiatives, from promoting economic and social development to combating terrorism and addressing climate change.
